안년하세요!

13 August 2014, Wednesday

Well that means "Hello" in Korean. Guess what? I met my Korean friend today!!

Hyewon unnie was one of the many friends I met during my four months in Daejeon, South Korea for my OSEP. She is just one year older than me and she is coming to Singapore for a short trip!

Her plane touched down at about noon time but because I was working I could not pick her up from the airport. Thankfully she have tons of Singapore friends too! And most of them are from Nanyang who went for OSEP on batches before me as well.

This friend of her, Weishan, who apparently stays near me too, picked Hyewon unnie from the airport and brought her around till I was supposed to meet her. We agreed to meet at 7pm at Raffles Place mrt, but because Hyewon unnie didn't text me the entire day, I was kinda worried if the meeting would be called off. :/

I tried chatting with her on Kakao Talk and even messaging her but I got no reply. Eventually, while I was on the train with Theresa, she called me with a Singapore number (which I presumed is a passer-by's number) and blurted lots of Korean to me. Because I was underground and the reception was not too good, I couldn't really hear clearly where is she waiting for me. So after blabbering for about 5 minutes on the phone we ended the call. And I prayed hard she would be waiting for me at the exit of the station.

When I arrived at Raffles Place, I searched both levels of the platform but could not find her. I tapped out of the exit and attempted to look for her, but because it was after office hours, it was difficult to spot her. After all, I haven't seen her for more than 6 months.

She was the one who recognized me from afar and I just ran across and hugged her and yelled out "Unnie!!!" Because it was so difficult to find her I'm glad I finally did.

We headed to Lau Pa Sat because she got to know of that place through a documentary and she really wanted to try the satay there. Honestly it was my first time there as well but we managed to get there safely. *achievement unlocked*

As I said it was my first time there, I really didn't know which stall was nice, so we just sat anywhere that was available. That's when the store owners start approaching you. This satay man and three prc guys from a tzechar store hung around just so to ensure we will order from them. So as I was discussing with Hyewon unnie on what she would like to have for dinner, this three prc guys were eavesdropping on our conversation so openly. Lol.

And then he started introducing the dishes on the menu in Korean to us, like crab and vegetables and all. I just nodded my head because I was in the midst of a conversation with Hyewon unnie. After we decided on what we wanna eat, I just turned to the guy and ordered in chinese and then all of a sudden all three of them were staring at me and the first question they asked was, "你会将华语?!" In which I replied, "当然啊我是华人耶." Hahaha they must have though both Hyewon unnie and I were Koreans lolol.

We had dinner and Hyewon unnie was really so amazed and fascinated by the Singapore delicacies because she saw them all before on the documentary. We went to Starbucks after that and sat a while befor eheading to Chinatown!

We walked past this shop selling 麻辣汤 and Hyewon unnie instinctively stopped and turned to look at that shop. She lovesssss 麻辣汤! So we went into the shop and I am so amazed at how she can eat so much even though we just had dinner! And the same drama happens.

When we are discussing on what she wanna eat, the guys in the shop kept gossiping about us in chinese, which I obviously understood. And when I opened my mouth to order in chinese, they looked at both of us in disbelief lol. Enough of this kinda story anyway hahaha.

After which we parted ways *sobs* where she heads back to her hotel in Lavendar and I head back home because I have work tomorrow. She is heading to USS tomorrow with her other group of Singaporean friends!

Just a short catch up with her but it means so much to me! Am so elated to see her again after seven months apart!

And on a side note, damn I miss Korea. :(
