16 May 2014, Friday
Its TGIF but not a happy one. Its Stacey and Elisabeth's last day at work today and I'm so gonna miss them. If not for them who always listen to my grumble and forgive my mistakes I wouldn't be here today. Okay I know I'm actually nowhere haha. But still, they were an important part of my work life by guiding me through.
We actually had a farewell (cum-welcome) party on Wednesday already, organized by Christopher. It was quite interesting haha, he started the party by announcing: " New comers please stand on my left, those who are leaving please stand on my right. And those who are planning to leave, please step forward too," Hahaha. Chris is really funny. He can really be nice at times but at others he can be really stern and serious.
And Silvia asked me to do graphs again hahaha. At least this time, I was better at it. Oh and yes I did send Dorothy the completed report haha.
And there was this guy, Mr R, who called me "Hey Jus" over the phone and I was like, "Hi, who is this?"
"I call you Jus you don't recognize me already ah?" Lol. How would I know who are you sia. And not everybody calls me Jus. Lol.
And this lady called from overseas and we had such a hard time communicating because the line was so bad and there is a lag of 1-2 seconds (if you have called overseas and realised) and spelling my email to her was so difficult.... But I did it in the end.
Oh. And I forgot to mention. I was late for work today. Extremely late lol. When I woke up this morning the sky was really bright so I wanted to check my phone for the time but when I clicked the home button it didn't light up, so I figured out it shut down during the night, that's why m alarm didn't ring and I didn't hear the texts and calls. I woke up only at 9.10am!! Sue called me and she was like upset I think cos she was looking for me. Thank god Aswin said there wasn't morning meeting and everyone has gone for a morning conference so not many people know about it. I waited for a cab for 20 mins to no avail so I took the train to work and reached the office at 10.15am lol. I apologized to Silvia but she was laughing at me speechless, "you kiang hor, oversleep so long?" Hahahaha I'm so sorry. It won't happen again.
And Elisabeth was kind of mad at me cos I didn't reply her guest... At times like this I really hate my memory for failing me. But today Amanda told me that shouldn't be a reason/excuse so she suggested I write every single thing down I hear so that I won't forget. Okay I will try and see if it works.
So when I left work slightly late Silvia joked and ask if I'm staying because I came work late, hahaha. And from today onwards I'm taking over Stacey's duties for Silvia. Gosh, wish me luck.

Excel in Excel?
15 May 2014, Thursday
Bottleneck!!! Today was so stressed man. After like so long.
Silvia called me into the office today. You know unless the boss is someone you personally know, no matter how long you've worked, it still feels kinda scary to be called into the office. And I mean close like personally close, like... you know who.
Well, talking about boss that I am personally close to, he recently left the organization... Which is a damn big news and damn sad thing for me to know He left within 24 hours because it was really serious and the last time I ever saw of him was 6th May morning. When I reached my workplace at 7.30am I saw him take his briefcase and left in a cab. I was still wondering where would he be going at so early in the morning with his stuff cos his job doesn't require him to meet clients outside.
And so... I never saw him again. Which is a pity. I hesitated whether to text him and I finally did on Sunday, telling him its a pity I didn't get to bid him farewell and wished him all the best in his future endeavors. Till then, take care.
So back to bosses. So Silvia called me into the office to ask me to do Excel graphs/charts for her. She asked if I was good at Excel and I was like, "errrr.... Okay lorh." Hahaha. To think that I used to get B for my Excel module. Mr Tan would scold me now if he knew I forgot everything I learnt about Excel hahaha.
So I had a hard time figuring out how to input data, how to change the legend, how to input labels lol omg. Don't laugh at me if you know all these; like what Amanda told me today, its because I haven't had an office job before and never had to use Excel ever since 2011. So forgive me, I took some time before I figured out and I was so over the moon lol.
And I was tied up because I was so stressed up doing the production report for Marcus' client. Thankfully Dorothy (pseudo name for client) was nice and not the nasty kind. She actually called me to ask me to send her the report by 5.30pm but I didn't manage to finish it so I called her at 6pm (and Marcus left already :O) to tell her I only completed half of it. I asked if she wanted me to send her the first half first and I'll send her the next half tomorrow and she said yes! Hahaha and we had some small chats about holidays... Its nice when you have nice clients.
Oh and we have a new coordinator today.Theresa is replacing Stacey and she is quite a lovable girl hehe. Hope to get to know her better in future!
So yeah I was really so tied up at work but I have to leave so I really rushed off. Had a great late dinner with my Korean Drama. Love simple nights like this.
Post-OSEP Day xxx: It has been hundreds of days after OSEP, but the feeling still doesn't wear off. The memories, the friends, everything there. I wanna confess; Korea, I'm in love with you.

Poly Friends :)
02 May 2014, Friday
Yes! TGIF hahaha after yesterday's public holiday just one day of work and the weekends are here again!!
Rushed off after work today because I'm meeting my pastamania clique for Spiderman movie screening at Cineleisure! Its actually a sponsored event by PSB Academy and Jobs DB for all graduating polytechnic students and we registered online, Registration starts at 5pm but because all of us were working that's why we went at 6.30pm. And they told us all tickets were fully redeeemd based on FCFS basis. Which was annoying to hear. But in return they were giving us movie vouchers to watch again on another day. So we let it go. Haha.
We headed for dinner at Xinwang and thanks to Amanda, Chris and JD who listens to me grumble about work stuff (as usual). And then we went to Scape followed by 313 to have desserts in basement. JD had supper though, haha. And thanks Chris for his tutorial on sex education for a whole 15 minutes (hahahaha :P) at Guardian.
Times spent with them is really the best; I'm really blessed to have them.
I went to meet another friend at Marina Square at night to meet up with his colleagues to catch Spiderman together. Good thing I didn't manage to watch it earlier; and yes, I planned to watch it twice.
The movie ended at about 2am and so we cabbed home and I slept at about 3am. Supposed to go ice-skating tomorrow at 10am at JCube with my aunt and cousins. Don' t even know if I can wake up on time.

Labour Day!
01 May 2014, Thursday
Because its Labour Day its a public
holiday on a Thursday and that makes my week a lot shorter! Kinda disappointing
that I have to go back to work on Friday though.
But I must really say PHs never meant so
much to me when I was working in the F&B industry. But now that I hold an
office job, PHs mean everything to me haha.
A few reasons why I'm feeling so happy
this week.
1. Sue and Marcus are on leave! Not that I
am happy not to see them, but, feels like I will have more freedom right? Hehe.
And Elisabeth isn't doing much these days since she's leaving already.
(Technically she's not allowed to do anything haha :P)
2. Dilemma at work has been solved (at
least for now). At least I'm not fretting over it everyday. And at least I
didn't get scolded, like recently. Haha :P
3. Had recent catch ups with my Korean
friends I made during my OSEP trip. Really miss them so much. Kept in contact
with international friends like Mac, Surya, Rockey and Zion, and also Hyewon
and my buddy. I wasn't involved in the recent interview with the Korean Embassy
with the Korean OSEP students in NYP because I have work as well. Seemed like
lots of fun though!
4. Having plans to go for staycation in
Batam over the weekends with my BFFs haha and also planning for Korea Trip end
of year! Can't wait to go overseas with them; they're like the best BFFs ever.
5. My schedule for May is getting really
packed and I haven't had time to meet up with a few of my friends! Like
Yikloong, Zailiang, Joanna and my colleague... Haha I'm writing it here in case
I forget who I need to meet up with. That's how bad my memory is. Because I
don't enter an appointment into my calendar if its not confirmed. Hehe.
6. Yes! May is very productive to begin
with. Hehe. Sue was satisfied with my prompt reply to her guest and she said
she'll buy me souvenirs from her holiday trip haha (which idk to believe or not
:P). And Elisabeth is helping me a lot.
7. This weekend is packed with activities
and I feel like I'm alive. Haha. Shall not disclose my activities but its
really kinda packed and I love catching up with my friends!
8. So we had early Mother's Day
celebration today at Tunglok @ Orchard Central with the relatives and cousins.
It has been quite long since I dressed up and went out (I don't usually really
dress UP if its just outings with friends) so I was kinda excited about today.
Wore my killer hills and took lotsa photos with cuzzie and aunt but couldn't get
a decent one for ootd. But I love the one I took with Kelly because she looks
like Happy Meal and I look like upsized EVM hahaha.
Mood is really good these days. I wonder
how long these good times will last.
TGIW!

anyone please give me advice?

Memories and Thoughts
22 April 2014, Tuesday
Today is the day I resume work after a long weekend of holiday. Friday was Good Friday, and I took OIL on Monday. The long weekend definitely made me feel so dreamy and I was really reluctant to come back to work.
And... Today is the beginning of a new drama sequel! For those who have watched Startling Heart (步步惊心) would know about the long-anticipated sequel 步步惊情. The former is a time-travelling Chinese traditional drama which features the main lead travelling back in time after an accident. The story unfolds the love story between her and the various male leads in the ancient Qing Dynasty.
The sequel, mainly consisting of the same cast as the former, continues developing the story with all main characters of the former in the current century. The story gets more intense with the introduction of new characters and other aspects of business, love and relationship, not forgetting the love between the male and female lead even in the 21st century.
The trailers of the sequel has been uploaded over the past week, and honestly as a fan of the drama sequel, I cannot help but squeal in excitement for the release of the sequel. I went back to re-watch the drama again and it brought back so many memories of the show. And towards the end, I concluded my thoughts and emotions from watching the show.
Looking at how the female lead, Ruoxi, traveled back in time and developed herself from an innocent and ignorant girl to a careful and witty lady to survive in the ancient times made me feel like it wasn't an easy journey for her. From being a little nobody in the palace to being the royal servant to the emperor, she put in so much effort before she got that position. She was well-liked by the masters, and known for her cheerful never-say-die attitude. She was popular and often got special advantages and privileges that no one else in her position got.
But because of one small mistake, she got sent to the laundry department for the rest of her life as a form of punishment by the then emperor. It was definitely hell for her, from staying in the royal house and serving the emperor, receiving gold, jade and jewelry from the royals to washing clothes manually in cold water even in winter. From the very first day she entered the laundry department, rumors already started spreading that she was a royal servant but got punished for something she did. These rumors were not in her favour, and she wasn't well-liked by the people there. The head of the laundry department received many concerns from the various masters asking to take special care of Ruoxi because of her special status as everyone knows. Ruoxi was given special treatment because of this and the others were jealous of her. They stole her jewelry, dissed her and left no food for her during dinner. She kept quiet despite all those treatment because she accepted her fate.
The laundry maids do not usually have chances to see the masters since the palace was really big and no masters would come by the laundry department for no reason. Every time Ruoxi hears others talking about the masters, the sense of familiarity hit her and it was obvious she missed them.
Same goes for the masters too. They often dropped by the laundry department on purpose just to speak to her or look at how she is doing. Everybody knew of Ruoxi as a "big shot" as masters would specially make a trip to the laundry department to catch up with her, bring her food and even letters. She was once the apple of everyone's eyes; but now she is nothing but slowly servant. Yet she is still receiving the royal treatment she used to receive from the masters. It all just felt like seeing myself from a third party's point of view.
I started out in F&B as a waitress when I was just 16. It has been four years since then, and I am proud of my journey till today. I put in my best effort, received compliments from my guests, received the largest amounts of tips, got scolded by my guests, got complained and yelled at, broke plates and even charged the wrong bill. All these made me grow and develop into a better person and I had a good reputation.
During that three years of my working journey, I never fell sick and was never late. I always finish up my tasks even if it means staying back late. Back then when I was still young, my stamina could last me more than 12 hours a day. And of course, I was of great help to my bosses and managers. I was flexible and efficient. I never rejected their requests for help especially when its busy. I really did my managers proud and they always feel at ease when they know I'm there. With that, I climbed my way higher as my bosses trusted me more and more.
No I wasn't promoted. But I was given much more opportunities than I would receive than a promotion. I moved on from The Line to Banquet, and they soon allowed to do VIP functions and events. My friends and I were not regular banquet staff already; we would usually be asked to do certain specific tasks that is not for everybody.
Pre-function cocktails were usually done by girls, but we were always not involved because we would be asked to do something else. Like staying in the ballroom to light the candles or accompany the organizers to even doing checks on the set up. We were just different.
Banquet managers got to know me, and I was always picked out of everyone to do some random tasks like running errands for managers. My friends and I got to attend so many VIP functions and I felt really appreciated by them. When they call me up specially just to ask me to work because they specifically need me; when they call us for bookings instead of the other way round; when they arrange special transport or accommodation for us; or when they give us leeway to go home early/come home late/longer lunch or dinner breaks. All these is enough to show that we were really given a lot of leeway at work. I loved them for giving me opportunities and making me feel appreciated and they loved me for helping them when they needed help.
I was given an opportunity to work for F1 at the venue itself as a waitress and a supervisor for the second year.
